LUDHIANA: It is painful to see your naughty cuddly poochie go silent due to the monsoon sickness. Pets need 100% attention, love, care and regular medical check-ups throughout the year. But pet parents need to be little more cautious during monsoon as the risk is more due to easy accessibility to muddy water, poisonous grass making the pooches vulnerable to catch number of skin and other diseases.
Knowing what disease your pet is vulnerable to could be great help when it comes to taking preventive measures as prevention is better than cure. "Poochies love rain and playing in water, so controlling them from getting wet is impossible," said Vanita Arora, a veterinary doctor from Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Ludhiana.
She added, "Skin infection, fungal infection, diarrhoea and gastroenteritis are some of the common ailments that dogs are prone to during monsoon. The wet fur and muddy paws in pets can cause a lot of fungal, yeast infections and may result in a lot of discomfort. Sometimes the infections may even cause death so it is important to keep the fur dry. Providing your poochie with healthy diet to keep him fit and healthy accessorizing is equally important".
There are accessories that not only make poochie look smart and cool, but also keep them disease free.
"During monsoon, it is very hard to keep a check on your pet, as he is dirty the next minute you give him a bath. To save the dog it is better to make it wear cool dog shirts. These can protect them from getting wet again and these shirts are available at every pet shop in the city," she added.

The dirty wet fur and paws can cause a serious infection so many people come and buy different styles of shoes, t-shirts and raincoats for their loveable pets," said Geeta Sharma, a shopowner at Sarabha Nagar.
Kavya Sharma, who has a male labrador named Junior, said, "I have bought a raincoat and shoes for my pet as it is very particular about his walk and food. I make it wear a raincoat and shoes while taking it out for a walk."
